Dillon, Fitzgerald earn league accolades

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College lacrosse team saw two of its members honored by the league office this afternoon. Senior Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) was tabbed the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week, while first-year Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) was named the Rookie of the Week for the third straight week.
Dillon posted 20 points in two conference wins for the Herons over the weekend, including a career-high 12 points on seven goals and five assists in their 23-11 win over Clarkson on Friday. She went on to notch two goals and six assists the next day in a 15-6 win over St. Lawrence. A midfielder, Dillon totaled nine goals and 11 assists on the week, raising her season total to a league-leading 44 points.
Fitzgerald registered six goals and an assist for William Smith. She netted three goals and recorded a helper in the win over the Golden Knights, and tallied three times in the victory over the Saints the next day. She ranks second on the team in scoring with 23 points.
The 16th-ranked Herons improved their overall record to 7-2, and are undefeated in Liberty League play with a 4-0 mark. They will be back in action on April 13-14 when they host Rochester and Hamilton for two conference games on McCooey Field. Friday’s game is set to begin at 4 p.m., while Saturday’s game will start at 3 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on www.ECAC.tv. For $5.50 fans can watch the action live.
