Dillon, Fizgerald take home lax awards

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College lacrosse senior Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) and first-year Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) were both honored at the Annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet on May 1.
Dillon was honored with the Patricia Price Genovese Lacrosse Award. A three-time All-Liberty League selection, the midfielder ranked second in the league in goals (48), assists (31), and points (79). Over the past three years she led the Herons in scoring, and wraps up her career with 128 goals and 47 career assists. This spring she recorded a career-high 12 points (7-5) in a win over Clarkson, the first part of a two-game 20-point outburst. Dillon was named the league’s Offensive Performer of the Week, RACA Co-Female Athlete of the Week, and ECAC Upstate Player of the Week following that performance. Dillon also led the Herons in draw controls with 37.
The Shirley Zornow ’48 Lacrosse Coach’s Award went to Fitzgerald. The Liberty League Rookie of the Year led all first-years in goals (31), assists (11) and points (42). She recorded six hat tricks this season, and tallied five points (3-2) in a win over Denison. Also named to the All-Liberty League second team, the attacker was tabbed the league’s Rookie of the Week three times this season.
Additionally, senior midfielder Jane Erickson (Douglas County/Castle Rock, Colo.) won a department-wide award, the Evaleen C. Harrison ’19 Scholar-Athlete Award.
