Dougherty joins Heron staff
January 30, 2007
GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College Director of Athletics Deb Steward recently announced that former Heron lacrosse standout Brighde Dougherty ’04 will join the William Smith lacrosse coaching staff for the 2007 season. No stranger to the sideline, Dougherty held this position in 2005 as well under Head Coach Pat Genovese.
Extremely active with the youth lacrosse movement in her home state of New Jersey, Dougherty served as the head varsity coach for the girl’s lacrosse team at St. Rose High School. Through Good Sports USA, she designed and managed the first lacrosse camps for girls along the New Jersey shore, and established a thriving indoor high school lacrosse league which draws teams from all over Central New Jersey.
While a player at William Smith, Dougherty led the Herons to a 61-9 record, two league titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances, and the 2001 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship. An IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American, she totaled 85 goals and 26 assists for 111 career points.
Also a former William Smith tennis student-athlete, Dougherty has taught private and group tennis lessons to people of all ages.
A Sea Girt, N.J., native, Dougherty graduated from William Smith in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in media and society, and a minor in education.
