GENEVA, N.Y.—The ninth-ranked Hamilton College lacrosse team edged 14th-ranked William Smith 14-12 this afternoon on McCooey Field. The Herons slip to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the Liberty League, while the Continentals improve to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

William Smith senior Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) led all scorers with four goals and two assists. First-year Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) totaled two goals and a helper for the Herons, while sophomore Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) tallied twice, and junior Rachel Stahl (Charles W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) and first-year Medora Hartz (Mercersburg Academy/Orlean, Va.) each added a goal and an assist.

The Continentals were led by senior Liz Longley (Duxbury/Duxbury, Mass.) (4 goals, 1 assist) and sophomore Kaillie Briscoe (Orangeville District/Orangeville, Ontario) (2-3), who each totaled five points. Senior Suzy Belmont (Scituate/Scituate, Mass.) netted three goals for Hamilton, while sophomore Kate Marek (The Gunnery School/Alexandria, Va.) tallied two.

Dillon charged straight to the goal for her first goal of the day after winning the first draw control of the game, then found Stahl a few minutes later for another tally, to give the Herons an early 2-0 lead. Longley netted the first goal for Hamilton at 5:37.

The teams traded goals for the remainder of the first half, combining for 15 goals. Neither team led by more than a goal after the Continentals tied things up at 3-3 with more than 20 minutes to play in the first. William Smith took a slim 8-7 lead into the break.

Hamilton started the second half with two unassisted goals by senior Inga Stots (Millbrook School/Clinton Corners, N.Y.) and Marek, to claim a 9-8 lead at 8:49.

After William Smith scores from Parnell and Goodkind evened the game at 10-10 with just over 10 minutes left, the Continentals took over for good. They tallied four goals in less than four minutes to take a 14-10 lead with just over five minutes remaining.

The Herons rallied for two goals in the final three minutes, but would run out of time. Fitzgerald and Hartz netted the final two goals of the day.

Junior goalkeeper Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) recorded 11 saves for William Smith, while senior Kalley Greer (Anderson Vocational Institution/Whitby, Ontario) stopped 16 shots for Hamilton.

William Smith will be in action again on April 20 when it travels to Skidmore for a Liberty League match up at 4 p.m.
