#14 Heron lax downs Skidmore, 15-11

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith College Herons defeated Skidmore College 15-11 in Liberty League women’s lacrosse action this afternoon. The Herons improve to 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the league, while the Thoroughbreds drop to 1-13 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

Senior Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) led William Smith with four goals and three assists, while sophomore Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) scored four goals and classmate Nina Sperry (Daniel Hand/Madison, Conn.) added two goals and two helpers.

Sophomore Jordan McManama (Wellesley/Wellesley, Mass.) led Skidmore with three goals and an assist, while classmate Allie Vogel (Tappan Zee/Blauvelt, N.Y.) and first-year Abbie Klaus (Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Bethesda, Md.) each tallied twice and added two assists.

After trading goals for the first 15 minutes of play, the Herons took control, netting five unanswered goals to end the period. Dillon netted three of her goals during this span, while Parnell added two. William Smith took a 9-4 lead into the break.

In the second half the Herons remained in control of the game, outscoring the Thoroughbreds 6-3 in the first 25 minutes. Skidmore went on a run, scoring four goals in the final five minutes of play, but would run out of time.

Junior goalkeeper Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) stopped 13 shots for the Herons, while Skidmore netminder Courtney DeStefano (Moses Brown School/Rehoboth, Mass.) recorded nine saves.

William Smith will be back in action tomorrow, when it travels to Union for a conference game at 2 p.m.
