Heron lax holds steady at No. 14

GENEVA, N.Y.—For the second straight week, the William Smith lacrosse team is ranked 14th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
After splitting two Liberty League games last week with Rochester and ninth-ranked Hamilton, William Smith owns an 8-3 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the conference. The Herons dispatched the Yellowjackets, 14-8, before dropping a hard-fought game to the Continentals, 14-12.
Senior midfielder Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) leads the offense with 32 goals and 22 assists on the season, including the seven goals and three assists she tallied last week. Dillon currently leads the Liberty League in assists per game (2.0), and ranks second in points per game (4.91).
First-year attacker Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) added five goals and two assists in the last two games, while classmate Sarah Goodkind (Millbrook School/Riverside, Conn.) tallied five goals. Fitzgerald ranks second on the team in goals (23) and points (30), while Goodkind ranks third in draw controls (22) and ground balls (16).
On defense, junior Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) and sophomore Torie Allen (Governor Dummer Academy/Dedham, Mass.) lead the Herons in ground balls with 25 and 18, respectively, while sophomore goalkeeper Becky Josefiak (West Seneca East/West Seneca, N.Y.) leads the league in goals against average (7.82) and ranks second in save percentage (.579).
William Smith will travel to Skidmore for a Liberty League contest on April 20 at 4 p.m., before taking on No. 17 Union in Schenectady on April 21 at 2 p.m. Fans can follow the game against the Dutchwomen online by clicking on the live coverage link on the Heron lacrosse schedule page.
