SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The 14th-ranked William Smith College women’s lacrosse team fell to Union College 19-5 in a Liberty League match up this afternoon. The Herons slip to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the league, while the Dutchwomen improve to 8-3 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
First-year Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) led William Smith with three points (1 goal, 2 assists), while sophomore Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) tallied twice, and seniors Jessica Scott (Waynflete School/Portland, Maine) and Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) each scored once.
Sophomore Liz Zamore (Essex/South Hero, Vt.) and first-year Allie Cuozzo (King Phillip Regional/Norfolk, Mass.) led the Dutchwomen with four goals and one assist apiece.
Union outshot William Smith 26-7 in the first half on the way to taking an 11-1 lead with 3:28 to play. The Herons scored three goals in the final minute, and took an 11-4 deficit into the break.
William Smith could not regain momentum in the second half, as the Dutchwomen outscored the Herons 8-1 in the final 30 minutes of play.
Junior goalkeeper Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) stopped 13 shots for the Herons, while Union goalie Stephanie Burlton (Milton Academy/Coquitlam, B.C.) tallied seven saves.
William Smith will be back in action on April 25 when it travels to Nazareth for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
