GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College lacrosse team out shot Denison University 50-23 this afternoon en route to a 15-5 victory in the final game of the Heron Draw. The Herons improved to 5-2 overall, while the Big Red slipped to 2-5 on the season.

William Smith first-year Molly Fitzgerald (Gould Academy/Sudbury, Mass.) led the offense today with three goals and two assists. Sophomore Nina Sperry (Daniel Hand/Madison, Conn.) also netted a hat trick, while senior Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) and sophomore Michaela Parnell (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) each added two goals and a helper. Junior Rachel Stahl (Charles W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) also tallied twice for the Herons.

Junior Read Powell (Hathaway Brown/Shaker Heights, Ohio) and senior Krissy Frost (Wilton/Wilton, Conn.) led the Big Red with two goals apiece, while junior Meg Wilcox (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) also recorded a tally.

Denison opened the scoring with Frost netting her first goal less than five minutes into the game. William Smith answered with five goals in the next seven minutes, taking an early but commanding 4-1 lead with over 18 minutes left to play in the half.

After a score by Wilcox at 12:43, the Big Red went on to hold the Herons to one goal for the remainder of the half. Denison posted two more goals before the break to cut the host’s lead to one, and took a 5-4 deficit into the intermission.

Sperry netted back-to-back goals in the first two minutes of the final period, sparking a 10-1 run by the Herons, the third time this season William Smith has recorded 10 second-half goals.

Junior netminder Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) picked up nine saves for the Herons, while senior Carolyn Hicks (Hawken School/Gates Mills, Ohio) recorded 11 saves for Denison.

William Smith, currently ranked 15th in Division III, will be in action again on April 6 when it travels to Clarkson for a Liberty League match up at 4 p.m.
