Herons rank 14th in Division III

April 10, 2007

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College lacrosse team is ranked 14th in Division III, according to the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. This is the highest ranking for the Herons so far this season; two weeks ago they held the 15th spot.

William Smith is 7-2 overall and undefeated in Liberty League play (4-0) heading into this weekend’s conference action. The Herons will host Rochester on April 13 at 4 p.m., before moving on to ninth-ranked Hamilton on April 14 at 3 p.m. Both games will take place on McCooey Field.

Senior tri-captain Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) leads the William Smith offense. The midfielder has netted 25 goals and tallied 19 assists so far this season, including a 20-point breakout performance in two games last week that earned her Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week and Rochester Area College Athletics Co-Female Athlete of the Week accolades.

The Yellowjackets will come to Geneva with a 2-5 mark (2-2 Liberty League), while the Continentals will enter the weekend with a 7-2 record (4-0), and tied for first in the conference with the Herons.

Both games will be broadcast on www.ECAC.tv. Fans can watch the action live for just $5.50. The online video stream requires Windows Media Player or another player capable of playing streaming Windows video and a high-speed DSL or Cable Internet connection.

Penn Atlantic, the ECAC, and William Smith Athletics have teamed up to bring this new feature to Heron fans. The ECAC is the largest athletic conference in the country and the nationwide leader in service, while Penn Atlantic, Inc. is a Charleston, S.C.-based communications and media company focused on creating, aggregating and delivering information and entertainment to a broad range of audiences around the world.
