GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith lacrosse team is ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) preseason poll. The Herons finished the 2005-06 season atop the Liberty League standings with a 7-1 record, and ended their season with a 10-6 overall mark.

William Smith’s schedule features contests with seven nationally-ranked opponents, three of which are Liberty League members. No. 6 Cortland, No. 7 Franklin & Marshall, No. 14 Dickinson, No. 16 Union, No. 17 Nazareth, No. 19 Hamilton, and No. 22 Skidmore will all meet the Herons in 2007.

William Smith welcomed back 16 veterans, including All-Liberty League selections senior Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.), senior Jessica Scott (Waynflete School/Portland, Maine), junior Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.), and junior Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.). The Herons also added seven first-years to this year’s squad. The Herons open their season in Wellington, Fla., on March 13, where they will take on Dickinson.
