Hawrylchak earns Verizon Academic All-District honors

GENEVA, N.Y.—The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently named William Smith College junior Shana Hawrylchak (Guilderland/Altamont, N.Y.) to the Verizon College Division Women’s At-Large Academic All-District I second-team.

Those on the first team will go on the national ballot for the Verizon Academic All-America Team. The student-athletes honored must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve player, and maintain a minimum 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

A three-year starter for the lacrosse team, Hawrylchak finished sixth on the team in scoring with 14 goals and five assists, earning All-UCAA honorable mention accolades. Completing her degree in anthropology in three years, the Phi Beta Kappa is a two-time member of the UCAA All-Academic Team. She recently received the Cynthia Oyler ’93 Award, presented to the senior who will be continuing her education at the postgraduate level and displays outstanding athletic abilities, excellent academic records, and exemplary leadership.

The Herons finished the 2003 season with a 16-3 record, tying the mark for most wins in a season. Capturing the UCAA title for the first time, William Smith advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the 11th time in the program’s history before falling to two-time defending champion Middlebury College.
