GENEVA, N.Y.—Six William Smith College lacrosse players were recently named to the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association All-State teams, including four first-team selections, the most by any team.

Juniors Megan Shea (Mountain Lakes (N.J.)/Doylestown, Pa.), Amanda Wynn (Loomis Chaffee/Aspen, Colo.), and Brigid Lynch (Manhasset/Manhasset, N.Y.), and sophomore Rebecca Splain (Middlebury Union/Middlebury, Vt.) earned a spot on the first-team. Sophomore Gretchen Lasda (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) garnered second-team accolades, while senior Susanna Young (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights, Ohio) received third-team honors.

A second-team All-American in 2001 and a three-time first-team Regional All-American, Shea has earned first-team All-NYSWCAA honors in three straight seasons. Also for the third consecutive season, she led the team in scoring with a team-high 53 goals and 24 assists for 77 points, while finishing second on the team in draw controls (28) and caused turnovers (21). On April 26, she became just the sixth Heron to record 200 career points and currently ranks fourth on the William Smith all-time scoring list with 214 points. She’s also tied for third on the career assists list with Kristen McCarthy ’96 with 73 helpers. Shea was twice named the UCAA Player of the Week this season.

A two-time Regional All-American, Wynn led the team in draw controls (37), was second in ground balls (52), and third in caused turnovers (20). She was also third on the team in goals (32), assists (20), and points (52). Wynn recorded her 100th career point on April 26 at Rensselaer. She scored a season-high six points twice this season in victories over Cortland State and Vassar.

Lynch, who is also a two-time Regional All-American, was a second-team All-State selection last season. She led the team in caused turnovers with 42, more than any two of her teammates combined. She also registered 12 goals and seven assists.

In just two seasons, Splain has secured a lofty spot in the Herons’ goalie records. She ranks seventh in career saves (288) and fourth in career wins (29), while her current career goals against average (6.63) and save percentage (.588) would rank second and seventh all-time, respectively. This season she posted a 14-2 record as a starter, notching 130 saves for a .558 save percentage and a 6.89 goals against average. In addition to her All-State honors, Splain was also named a second-team Regional All-American this week.

Lasda led the team in assists (25) and finished second in goals (36) and points (61) this season. She led the team in scoring in six games this season, including a career-high seven points (3-4) against Division II Pfeiffer. She also contributed 37 ground balls, 11 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers.

A two-time second-team Regional All-American, Young garnered third-team All-State honors for the second straight season. She completed her career with 55 goals, five assists, and 127 ground balls. She scored 23 goals and assisted on three others this season, while finishing fourth on team in ground balls (50) and fifth in draw controls (20). An exceptional student, Young is a two-time member of the Verizon Academic All-American All-District second-team and the UCAA All-Academic team.

The William Smith lacrosse team, ranked sixth in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll, made its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season, advancing to the quarterfinal round with a 20-4 win over No. 12 Rowan University before falling to top-ranked Middlebury College, 16-10. The Herons finished the season with a 14-2 record, including a 7-1 mark in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association.
