The Herons (4-1, 2-0 in UCAA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead just 2:09 into the first session on goals from senior Megan Shea (Mountain Lakes/Doylestown, Pa.) and Lasda. The Knights cut the lead to one 49 seconds later with a score from Mary Rice (Fayetteville-Manlius/Manlius, N.Y.), but Clarkson would be unable to get any closer as the Herons scored 11, including three by junior Nikki Traino (West Genesee/Syracuse, N.Y.), of the next 12 goals for a 13-2 halftime lead.

William Smith outshot Clarkson (1-3, 0-2 in UCAA) 38-14 for the game, including a 22-4 edge in the opening stanza, and collected 36 ground balls to the Knights 32. Following Lasda with five points on three goals and two assists was Traino, while senior Amanda Wynn (Loomis Chaffee/Aspen, Colo.) chipped in three helpers. Rice led all Knight scorers with two unassisted goals.

Between the pipes junior Becca Splain (Middlebury Union/Middlebury, Vt.) and sophomore Michelle Zimmer (Skaneateles/Auburn, N.Y.) split the time evenly, combining for seven saves. In goal for Clarkson, Allison Morlock (Lebanon/Lebanon, N.H.) went the distance and grabbed 11 saves.
