Lasda collects yet another weekly award

April 6, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Eastern College Athletic Conference has selected William Smith College senior attacker Gretchen Lasda (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) as the ECAC Upstate Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week. Her fourth award this week, Lasda also was named the MAAX Division III Player of the Week, the UCAA Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, and received a Division III Player of the Week honorable mention recognition from Inside Lacrosse.

Leading the Herons to a 3-0 week, Lasda turned in two five goal performances and one six-point showing to pace the William Smith offense. In a midweek matchup with St. John Fisher, she fired home five goals for a 13-6 victory over the Cardinals giving Head Coach Pat Genovese her 300th career victory.

Lasda upped her point total three days later with three goals and three assists for six points in a win over Denison in the first day of the Heron Draw. Scoring at least five points in each of her previous four games, she kept the streak alive with five tallies to turn away 14th-ranked Ithaca College, 12-7. Lasda has notched at least two goals in seven of her eight games and racked up at least two points in each of the team’s eight contests.

For the year, Lasda leads the team with 28 goals and 10 assists for 38 points. She’s first in the UCAA in goals (3.50/gm) and points (4.75/gm), and ranks second in assists (1.25/gm). Her 27 draw controls this season ranks fourth in the conference.

Ranked ninth in the latest poll, the Herons resume conference play on April 9, hosting league rival Skidmore College at 4 p.m., on McCooey Field.
