April 13, 2004

GENEVA, N.Y.—The weekly honors for William Smith College senior attacker Gretchen Lasda (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) continue to roll in as she was named the Rochester Area College Athletics Co-Female Athlete of the Week after leading the Heron lacrosse team to two crucial league victories over the weekend. She also was selected as the UCAA Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Performer of the Week.

Lasda continued her stellar offensive play this past weekend with 10 goals and two assists for 12 points in a pair of crucial league victories for the Herons. She tallied five goals and two assists in a resounding 14-2 win over 16th-ranked and unbeaten Skidmore College. The following afternoon, Lasda turned in her third consecutive five-goal outing in a 14-8 win against first place Union College. In addition to scoring over a third of the team’s goals, she won eight draw controls and picked up four ground balls.

Lasda has scored at least five points in each of William Smith’s seven previous games and netted at least five goals in five of the six past outings. For the season, she has racked up a career-high 38 goals and 12 assists for a league-best 50 points.

Ranked seventh in the latest poll, William Smith will take on 14th-ranked Hamilton College this evening in Clinton, N.Y., at 5 p.m.
