GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior attacker Gretchen Lasda (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) was named the Rochester Area College Athletic Co-Female Athlete of the Week and Inside Lacrosse Division III Player of the Week after helping the Herons capture their second consecutive UCAA Championship.

Lasda led all scorers this past weekend in the UCAA Tournament, finishing with 11 points on six goals and five assists. In the conference semifinal against Skidmore, Lasda netted three second-half goals and three assists, including one on the game-tying score, as the Herons rallied from a five-goal deficit to beat the Thoroughbreds 13-12.

In the title tilt with Union, Lasda notched her 14th consecutive hat trick of the year with the game’s first three goals. She added two more assists in the beginning of the second half to lift William Smith over the Dutchwomen 9-8. She also was selected as the UCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player.

Led by longtime Head Coach Pat Genovese, the eighth-ranked Herons are making their 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. William Smith will go for a program record 17th win in a single season when it meets 20th-ranked Wheaton College (14-2) in Middlebury, Vt. on May 8, at 2:30 p.m., in the regional semifinal. The winner advances to the regional championship on May 9, at 1 p.m.
