Queener to assist with Heron lacrosse September 20, 2003 GENEVA, N.Y.William Smith College Lacrosse Head Coach Pat Genovese recently announced the appointment of Penn Yan native Sarah Queener as an assistant coach for the 2004 season. Queeners parents, Harry and Pat, are the head coaches of the boys and girls teams, respectively, at Penn Yan Academy, having led the Mustangs to a combined record of 441-101 over an aggregate 27 seasons. Were delighted to have Sarah with us as she brings a creative and thorough approach to the game as a result of her playing experience at Penn Yan Academy and Yale University, along with her vast coaching experiences at the high school and camp levels, Genovese said. Im sure our players will benefit from her talent and dedication to lacrosse. Queener was a four-year letterwinner for the Yale University womens lacrosse team. A 2003 North-South All-Star, the former Bulldog was named to the All-Ivy League teams twice and garnered third-team All-American accolades from the Intercollegiate Womens Lacrosse Coaches Association following her senior season. She helped lead Yale to the 2003 Ivy League Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where the Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinal round. During her career, Queener scored 76 goals and assisted on 66 others in 64 games. Her 27 assists during her junior campaign ranks fifth on Yales single season list. A candidate for a bachelors degree in philosophy from the New Haven, Conn., institution, Queener also is working on the Hobart and William Smith campus for the offices of the deans and the president. The William Smith lacrosse team is coming off an appearance in the NCAA Semifinals, the programs 11th final four since 1987. The Herons return 20 letterwinners, including seven starters, from the 2003 squad. The defending UCAA Champions will begin their 2004 slate on March 24, when they host Nazareth. |
