Splain named UCAA Goaltender of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association recently named William Smith College junior Becca Splain (Middlebury Union/Middlebury, Vt.) its lacrosse Goaltender of the Week.

Splain helped the Herons improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the UCAA with a 15-3 victory over St. Lawrence and a 17-4 defeat of Clarkson. She grabbed nine saves on the weekend, including three on free position shots, to post a 3.33 goals against average. Collecting two ground balls and forcing as many turnovers in the two contests, Splain sports a conference best 5.33 goals against average.

Currently ranked sixth in the latest Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, the Herons will host the annual Heron Draw on April 5-6. William Smith opens the tournament on April 5, against Denison University at 11 a.m., with Ithaca and Colorado colleges following at 1:30 p.m. The following day, Denison and Colorado College begin the affair at 11 a.m., with the Herons battling 12th-ranked Ithaca at 1:30 p.m.
