GENEVA, N.Y.—The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association recently named William Smith College junior Becca Splain (Middlebury, Union/Middlebury, Vt.) its lacrosse Goaltender of the Week. Splain helped the Herons improve to 7-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the UCAA with stellar performances against Union and Skidmore this past weekend.

After suffering an overtime loss to the Dutchwomen a year ago, Splain helped William Smith reverse its fortunes by turning away 16 of Union’s 24 shots, for a 13-8 victory. The following afternoon, she made 11 stops, as the Herons edged the Thoroughbreds 6-5. She also picked up four ground balls against Skidmore.

Splain’s 5.36 goals against average leads the conference, while her .617 save percentage ranks second among all UCAA goaltenders.

Pacing the Herons on offense is senior co-captain Megan Shea (Mountain Lakes/Doylestown, Pa.) with 28 goals and nine assists, while Gretchen Lasda (West Genesee/Camillus, N.Y.) has 15 goals and 17 helpers.

William Smith plays again on April 15, when it hosts Hamilton College at 4 p.m.
