GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College’s Rebecca Splain (Middlebury Union/Middlebury, Vt.) earned her second weekly award in as many days. The sophomore was named the ECAC Upstate Goalie of the Week for the week ending April 7. She was also named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Goalie of the Week.

Splain turned back 24 shots in a 3-0 week for the Herons, posting a 4.19 GAA and a .667 save percentage. To start the week, she limited defending UCAA Champion Hamilton to just two goals while making seven saves in a 14-2 William Smith road win. Three days later, Splain allowed just one goal to 2001 NCAA Tournament participant Denison, turning back eight shots in 52 minutes of work. The following afternoon, she recorded nine saves against 2001 NCAA Quarterfinalist Ithaca.

Through eight games, Splain sports an 8-0 record with a 5.91 goals against average and a .593 save percentage. She ranks 12th in Division III in goals against average and 22nd in save percentage.

The Herons are 8-0 (3-0 in UCAA) and ranked fourth in the nation in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll. William Smith returns to action at 4 p.m., on April 12, when UCAA rival Union College visits Geneva. The Herons knocked off the Dutchwomen, 11-7, in Schenectady last season.
