GENEVA, N.Y.—Three William Smith College lacrosse players recently were named to the All-America teams by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association and U.S. Lacrosse. Seniors Megan Shea (Mountain Lakes/Doylestown, Pa.) and Brigid Lynch (Manhasset/Manhasset, N.Y.) both garnered first-team recognition, while classmate Amanda Wynn (Loomis Chaffee/Aspen, Colo.) was named to the third team.

These awards are just the most recent of a long list of honors bestowed upon this trio of seniors in 2003. All three garnered All-UCAA and IWLCA All-Region first-team honors and All-NYSWCAA recognition earlier this year. This marks the second consecutive season each of the three athletes have received All-American accolades.

The 2003 UCAA Co-Player of the Year, Shea led the team in points for the fourth consecutive season, notching 52 goals and 16 assists. Scoring at least one point in every game of her career, the two-time conference player of the year ranks second at William Smith in career assists (89) and points (282), and is fourth on the career goals (193) list. The senior attacker has garnered All-American recognition in each of the least three years, collecting first-team honors for the first time in 2003. She closes out her career with a 59-6-0 record, helping the Herons to appearances in three NCAA Tournaments and an ECAC Championship. Shea recently was selected to play in the North-South Senior All-Star Game.

A stifling defender for the Herons, Lynch helped anchor a defense that posted a stingy 6.37 goals against average in 2003. She led the team in caused turnovers with 25, while her 14 points ranked eighth on the team and tops among all defenders. A standout on the field hockey team as well, she was second on the lacrosse squad in ground balls with 66. Selected to the UCAA All-Tournament team, Lynch amassed 164 ground balls and 119 caused turnovers during her four seasons at William Smith.

The Herons’ center draw specialist, Wynn ranked third on the team with 25 goals and 12 assists. She was named the UCAA Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player after notching five goals to lead William Smith to its first UCAA title. Selected to the North-South Senior All-Star Game, the senior midfielder racked up 95 goals, 55 assists, and 109 draw controls during her four-year career. Wynn also was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team after recording three goals, three assists, and six ground balls during the NCAA Championships.

The Herons finished the 2003 season with a 16-3 record, tying the mark for most wins in a season. Capturing the UCAA title for the first time, William Smith advanced to the NCAA Semifinals for the 11th time in the program’s history before falling to two-time defending champion Middlebury College.
