Tigers double up Big Red, 12-6

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Colorado College women’s lacrosse team defeated Denison University, 12-6, in the second round of the Heron Draw Tournament at William Smith College. The Tigers got six goals from first-year midfielder Cassie Abel (Vashon Island, Wash.) to earn a split on the weekend, while sending the Big Red home winless.

Denison sophomore attacker attacker Stephanie Pratzner (Upper Arlington/Columbus, Ohio) netted the contest’s first goal just 1:39 into the game. Colorado College responded with a 6-2 run to finish the first half with a 6-3 advantage, getting three goals from Abel, two from senior attacker Chrissey Buckley (Denver, Colo.), and one from first-year attacker Jen Alpern (Cape Elizabeth, Maine).

The Tigers stretched their lead to 8-3 in the opening five minutes of the second half, getting tallies from sophomore midfielder Allison Craig (Denver, Colo.) and Buckley. The Big Red netted three of the next four scores to close to within 9-6 at the 49:11 mark, including two goals from junior attacker Leslie Masterpaul (Cleveland Heights/Cleveland Heights, Ohio), but couldn’t get any closer. Colorado College tacked on the final three markers of the contest, two from Abel and one from Craig, to go on to the 12-6 victory.

Buckley and Craig followed Abel in the Tigers (6-6) scoring column with three and two goals, respectively. In goal, junior Cindy Yi (Englewood, Colo.) made nine saves for the win.

Masterpaul’s two tallies paced the Big Red, while Pratzner and junior attacker Katie Keating (Cherry Creek/Englewood, Colo) each added a goal and an assist. Junior goalie Abbe Stewart (Worthington Kilbourne/Columbus, Ohio) finished with 13 stops for Denison
