Young repeats Verizon academic accolades

GENEVA, N.Y.—The College Sports Information Directors of America recently released the 2002 Verizon Academic All-America College Division Women’s At-Large All-District I Teams. For the second straight season, William Smith College senior Susanna Young (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights, Ohio) earned a spot on the second-team.

A two-time second-team Regional All-American on the Herons’ lacrosse team, Young completed her career with 55 goals, five assists, and 127 ground balls. She scored 23 goals and assisted on three others this season, while finishing fourth on team in ground balls (50) and fifth in draw controls (20). A studio art major, Young is also a two-time UCAA All-Academic team member. She was named to the Dean’s List twice and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

The William Smith lacrosse team, ranked sixth in the final IWLCA Coaches Poll, made its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season, advancing to the quarterfinal round with a 20-4 win over No. 12 Rowan University before falling to top-ranked Middlebury College, 16-10. The Herons finished the season with a 14-2 record, including a 7-1 mark in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association.
