GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College sophomore striker Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) and senior defender Seraphine Hamilton (Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) recently were selected as the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, in a vote by the coaches.

Joining Burnett-Kurie and Hamilton on the All-State team were junior goaltender Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.), junior midfielder Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.), and senior defender Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.).

Making her second consecutive appearance on the All-State team, Burnett-Kurie led the Liberty League in points (41), goals (18), points per game (2.28), and game-winning goals (7). Her points and goals totals are the third highest single season marks in William Smith history. A first-team All-Liberty League pick, Burnett-Kurie’s eight-point performance against Clarkson tied the Heron single game points and goals (4) records. She is a 2005 third-team Academic All-American and Liberty League All-Academic selection. The 2004 conference Rookie of the Year boasts 24 career goals and eight career assists for 56 points.

A three-time All-State pick, Hamilton was selected the 2005 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year. She anchored a William Smith back line which was the last NCAA soccer team, men or women, in any division, to surrender a goal. The 2004 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas third-team All-American, sports two career goals and six career assists for 10 points.

Making her third consecutive appearance on the All-State team, Dudley ranked third in the nation in goals against average (0.22) and save percentage (.942). An All-Liberty League first-team pick, she led the conference with 15 shutouts. On Oct. 8, Dudley stopped a season-high 11 shots during a 1-1 overtime draw against Union. She has started 59 consecutive games, posting a 0.49 goals against average, an .891 save percentage, a 42-10-6 record, and 37 career shutouts. Dudley was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second-team along with the Liberty League All-Academic Team.

An All-Liberty League first-team selection, Rieben completed the season second on the team in goals (6) and third in points (13). She netted the game-winning goal in back-to-back conference matches against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. In 59 career games, Rieben boasts 14 career goals and four career assists for 32 points.

Making her second consecutive appearance on the All-State team, Young led William Smith in assists (6). Young was selected to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second-team along with the Liberty League All-Academic Team. In 84 career games, she registered 22 points on one goal and 20 helpers. Young is tied for seventh on the William Smith career assists list.

The Herons completed the season with a 15-2-1 record, the program’s best mark since the 2001 squad went 17-2-1. It is William Smith’s 22nd consecutive winning season and ninth straight with at least 13 victories.
