GENEVA, N.Y.—Two players on the William Smith College soccer team earned conference honors this afternoon for their performances on the week ending Oct. 9. Sophomore forward Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) and junior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) were selected as the Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week and the Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, respectively. Both players have earned conference honors four times this season.
Burnett-Kurie netted a pair of goals over the weekend to improve the Herons’ overall record to 9-0-1and 4-0-1 in conference action. On Oct. 7, she recorded the game-winner in the fifth minute of overtime to lead the Herons past Skidmore 1-0. The following afternoon, Burnett-Kurie registered her 10th goal of the season against conference rival Union. She leads the Liberty League in goals (10) and is second in points (22).
Dudley registered 15 saves over the weekend, including her ninth consecutive shutout victory. During the Skidmore match, she turned away four Thoroughbred offerings to extend her scoreless streak to 900:24, which dates back to last year’s ECAC Upstate semifinal match against Plattsburgh. On Oct. 8, Dudley made a season-high 11 saves during a 1-1 draw against Union. The Herons’ were the final team, men or women in any division, not to surrender a goal this season. She leads the conference in shutouts (9) and goals against average (0.10).
William Smith will return to action on Oct. 11 for a 4 p.m. non-conference match at RIT.
