Burnett-Kurie, Dudley garner weekly conference honors
October 17, 2005
GENEVA, N.Y.—Two players on the William Smith College soccer team earned praise from the Liberty League office this afternoon. For the week ending Oct. 16, sophomore forward Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) and junior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) were selected as the Co-Offensive and Co-Defensive Performers of the Week, respectively.
Burnett-Kurie had a hand in all three Heron tallies as William Smith improved its overall record to 11-0-1. On Oct. 11, she netted a pair of goals, including her fifth game-winner, to lead the Herons’ to a 2-0 road victory over RIT. On Oct. 15, Burnett-Kurie registered an assist on the decisive goal as the Heron’s edged Nazareth 1-0. William Smith’s offensive catalyst leads the conference in points (27), goals (12), and points per game (2.25).
Dudley led William Smith to a perfect 2-0-0 record this week. She made one save against RIT and six against Nazareth to register her Division III leading 11th shutout. She also leads the nation in save percentage, .970, and boasts a miniscule 0.08 goals against average.
Both Burnett-Kurie and Dudley have won the conference’s weekly award fives times this season.
William Smith returns to conference action on Oct. 21 as the team travels to Vassar College (3-6-1, 2-2-0 Liberty League), while the Herons’ close out League play the following day at Rensselaer (2-8-1, 1-3-0). The Vassar match starts at 4 p.m., while the Rensselaer contest begins at 2 p.m.
