GENEVA, N.Y.—Two players on the fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team earned praise from the Liberty League office this afternoon. For the week ending Oct. 23, sophomore striker Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) and junior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) were named the Co-Offensive and Co-Defensive Performers of the Week, respectively.
Burnett-Kurie recorded back-to-back five-point games as the Herons (13-0-1, 6-0-1 Liberty League) defeated conference opponents Vassar and Rensselaer over the weekend. During a 4-0 road victory over the Brewers, she registered two goals and an assist. The following afternoon, Burnett-Kurie netted two goals and an assist as William Smith stopped the Red Hawks 3-0, clinching the top-seed in the Liberty League Tournament. She leads the conference in points (37), goals (16), points per game (2.64), and game-winning goals (6). Burnett-Kurie leads the team in assists with five.
Dudley made seven saves extend her shutout streak to 412 minutes, 33 seconds. She turned away five Brewer offerings and a pair of Red Hawks shots to register her Division III leading 12th and 13th shutouts of the season. Dudley lowered her Liberty League goals against average to 0.07.
Burnett-Kurie and Dudley have won the conference’s weekly awards six times each this season.
The Herons will return to action when the team travels to Cortland on Oct. 26 for a 4 p.m. showdown.
