GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College sophomore goaltender Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Canastota, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Soccer Defensive Player of the Week this afternoon. This is the second time she has earned the honor this season.

Dudley made 10 saves and posted a shutout in a 1-1 weekend for the Herons in the Liberty League Tournament. On Friday against 14th-ranked Union, Dudley had seven saves to earn her 11th shutout of the year as William Smith downed the Dutchwomen for the first time in six meetings to advance to the Liberty League Championship match.

The following afternoon she made three stops in 2-1 double overtime loss to Hamilton. For the weekend she posted a 0.91 goals against average and .833 save percentage in 197 minutes of action.

Playing every minute this season, Dudley is 13-3-2, including 11 shutouts and sports an impressive 0.42 goals against average and an .896 save percentage. A two-time All-Liberty League second-team honoree, she has posted 21 shutouts over the past two seasons.

The Herons will look to defend their 2003 ECAC title when they host Brockport State on Nov. 10, at 1:30 p.m., in the ECAC Upstate Championship. William Smith (13-3-2) is seeded second behind top-seed Union College, while the Golden Eagles (9-7-1) are the seventh seed. The Herons defeated Rochester 4-1 in the championship match last season to capture its first ECAC soccer title.
