GENEVA, N.Y.—Two players on the fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team were recognized by the Liberty League this afternoon. Junior Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Johanna Murphy (Amity/Woodbridge, Conn.) were selected as Defensive Performer of the Week and Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, respectively.
Dudley turned away a pair of Continental offerings to record her eighth consecutive shutout during a 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten Hamilton College. She is currently tied for the third longest scoreless streak in the school’s history. Dudley leads the nation in shutouts, goals against average (0.00) and save percentage (1.000). The Herons are the only NCAA soccer team, men or women, any division, not to allow a goal this season.
Murphy netted a pair of first-half goals just 2:32 apart to lead William Smith (8-0-0, 3-0-0 Liberty) past the Continentals. She is second on the team in points (12), goals (4), and assists (4).
The Herons will welcome the Thoroughbreds of Skidmore (10-1-0, 2-0-0 Liberty) to the friendly confines of Cozzens Field on Oct. 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
