GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior defender Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) recently was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Division III Women’s All-America first-team. A two-time All-American, she earned third-team honors following the 2004 season.
Hamilton is the 16th player in Heron history to earn first-team accolades and is the first since Leah Cornwell ’02 headlined the 2002 All-America team. No other Division III women’s soccer program boasts more than 10 first-team selections.
Already highly decorated, Hamilton is a three-time NSCAA All-Region selection, the 2005 New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, the 2005 Liberty League Player of the Year, a three-time All-State pick, and a three-time first-team All-Liberty League honoree. Hamilton anchored a William Smith back line that tied the Heron single-season record for goals allowed, holding the opposition scoreless for the first 871 minutes and 42 seconds of the season. Hamilton departs Geneva with 10 career points on two goals and six assists.
Over the past four seasons, Hamilton led the Herons to their sixth NCAA national semifinal in 2002, an ECAC Regional Championship in 2003, a record of 60-15-9, and 51 shutouts.
William Smith posted a 15-2-1 record this season, the program’s best mark since the 2001 team went 17-2-1. It’s the Herons 22nd consecutive winning season and the ninth with at least 13 wins. William Smith captured the regular season Liberty League title and made its record-setting 17th NCAA Tournament appearance.
