Hamilton, Burnett-Kurie earn weekly honors again
September 13, 2004
GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College junior Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) and first-year Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) were named the Liberty League’s Soccer Defensive Performer and Rookie of the Week this afternoon for the second straight week. They both were named to the Heron Cup All-Tournament team after helping the Herons capture the trophy.
One of just five players to start every game for William Smith, Hamilton garnered her second consecutive Most Valuable Defensive Player award, after being selected as the Heron Cup’s top player in the back over the weekend. She anchored a defensive unit that sacrificed just one goal in 189 minutes of action on the weekend, helping William Smith blank Geneseo, 4-0, and Allegheny, 2-1, in overtime. The Herons have posted two shutouts on the season and sport a 0.56 goals against average.
Burnett-Kurie continues to be a force up top for the Herons, scoring a pair of game-winning goals in the Heron Cup to keep William Smith unbeaten on the season. The rookie forward started things out in the 41st minute with an unassisted tally in a 4-0 shutout of Geneseo. The following day, Burnett-Kurie had the golden touch, heading home the game-winning goal with six seconds left in the first overtime against Allegheny. She leads the squad in scoring with three goals and an assist, while her seven points is third best in the league.
The Herons will put their undefeated record to the test again on Sept. 15, traveling to play Rochester, at 4 p.m.
