GENEVA, N.Y.—Two players on the William Smith College soccer team were recently named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Women’s College Scholar All-America Team. Senior defender Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) represented the Herons on the first team, while senior defender Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.) earned second-team accolades.

Hamilton, who continues to pile up the post-season honors, is a 2005 first-team All-American, a three-time NSCAA All-Region pick, the 2005 New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year, the 2005 Liberty League Player of the Year, a three-time All-State selection, and a three-time first-team All-Liberty League honoree. She anchored a William Smith back line that tied the Heron single-season record for goals allowed (4), holding the opposition scoreless for the opening 871 minutes and 42 seconds of the season. Hamilton departs Geneva with 10 career points on two goals and six assists.

Young, who is also highly decorated, is a 2005 second-team All-Region selection, a first-team All-State pick, and a first-team All-Liberty League honoree. She led the team in assists (6), registering one helper in four consecutive games. Young was selected to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District second-team and the Liberty League All-Academic Team. In 84 career games, she boasts one goal and 20 assists. She is tied for seventh on the Herons’ all-time assists list.

To be eligible for the Women’s Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a junior academic standing, a minimum of a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start at least 50 percent of the team’s games, and be nominated by a NSCAA member coach.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Aliceann Wilber, William Smith posted a 15-2-1 overall record this season, the program’s best since the 2001 team went 17-2-1. It’s the Herons 22nd consecutive winning season and the ninth with at least 13 victories. William Smith captured the regular season Liberty League title and appeared in its record-setting 17th NCAA tournament.
