CORTLAND, N.Y.—Sophomore Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H) scored twice to lead the fifth-ranked William Smith soccer team over Cortland 4-0 this afternoon.
Burnett-Kurie opened the scoring in the 21st minute finishing a feed from sophomore Leigh Williamson (Arlington/Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). Seven minutes later, senior Seraphine Hamilton (Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) padded the Herons’ lead as she connected on her first goal off the season off a penalty kick.
After the intermission, junior Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) netted her fifth goal of the season off of an assist from senior Steph Gridley (Auburn/Auburn, N.Y.). Burnett-Kurie rounded out the scoring in the 54th minute as she drilled her conference leading 18th goal of the season. Junior Ashley Kent (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.) earned an assist on the play.
Heron junior Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) made two saves to record her Division III leading 14th shutout of the season.
William Smith (14-0-1) will close out its regular season on Oct. 29 as the Herons hosted the Ithaca Bombers at 11 a.m.
