GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team defeated visiting RIT 3-0 this afternoon at William Smith Field. Three different first-year goal scorers gave the Herons their first three-game win streak of the season.
William Smith (8-2-2) controlled the tempo in the opening half, outshooting the Tigers 6-3, but neither team mounted a serious scoring threat.
After the break, the Herons turned up the intensity of their pressure. In the 53rd minute junior back Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) jump-started the offense with a perfect lead pass to first-year midfielder Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.C.), who finished her breakaway opportunity with a left foot shot into the lower right corner of the cage.
Twenty-one minutes later, senior midfielder Debbie Minarick (Wayne Valley/Wayne, N.J.) sent a beautiful cross through the middle of the box that first-year forward Brittany Warren (Liverpool/Syracuse, N.Y.) headed home for her first collegiate goal.
First-year forward Courtney Peters (Williamson/Williamson, N.Y.) closed out the scoring, capitalizing on a through ball from first-year midfielder Marisa Vespa (Immaculate Heart/Watertown, N.Y.).
Sophomore goalie Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Canastota, N.Y.) posted her seventh shutout of the season with four saves. First-year Dinah Redhouse (Greece Odyssey/Rochester, N.Y.) made seven stops for RIT (4-7-2).
The Herons return to action at 1 p.m., on Oct. 16, when Nazareth visits Cozzens Field.
