Tibbens selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team
November 4, 2004
GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior defender Jenn Tibbens (Sherburne-Earlville/Sherburne, N.Y.) was recently selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America to the CoSIDA College Division Women’s Soccer All-District I first-team. This is the second consecutive year Tibbens has earned first-team honors.
As a member of the first-team, Tibbens will move on to the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be released on Nov. 23. The student-athletes honored must be at least a sophomore, a starter or key reserve, and maintain a minimum 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
A biology major, Tibbens has helped anchor a Heron backline that has allowed just six goals, while posting 10 shutouts this season. William Smith is allowing less than four shots on goal per game and has sacrificed just one goal in the past 630 minutes.
A starter in all but one game over the past three seasons, Tibbens has been a part of a defense that has posted 34 shutouts, while allowing just 40 goals. She helped William Smith advance to the national semifinals in 2002 in her first year as a starter and was a key member of the 2003 squad that captured the ECAC Northeast Championship.
The 24th-ranked Herons (12-2-2) will begin their quest for a 17th berth in the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 5, in the Liberty League Tournament hosted by Hamilton College. Earning the third seed, William Smith will take on second seed and 14th-ranked Union College at 1:30 p.m. The winner advances to the championship game on Nov. 6, at 1 p.m., for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
