GENEVA, N.Y.—After 110 minutes of conference action, the William Smith College and Union College soccer teams played to a 1-1 stalemate this afternoon on William Smith Field.

The fourth-ranked Herons (9-0-1, 4-0-1 Liberty League) opened the scoring in the 34th minute as sophomore forward Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) volleyed as crossing pass from senior Pria Young (Council Rock/Richmond, Pa.) into the left corner of the net. First-year midfielder Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.) created the scoring opportunity by sending a through pass to Young along the lower right corner of the 18-yard box.

The Dutchwomen (8-1-2, 3-0-1) netted the equalizer at the 57:27 mark as senior midfielder Molly Flannagan (The Loomis Chaffee School/Simsbury, Conn.) made a run along the left flank and distributed a crossing pass to senior forward Erika Eisenhut (Mohawk/Mohawk, N.Y.), who buried the ball into the net.

William Smith was the last collegiate team in any division to surrender a goal this season. The Herons’ posted a scoreless streak of 871:42 to open the season.

William Smith generated the best scoring chance when junior midfielder Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) headed a crossing pass from senior defender Seraphine Hamilton (Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.), but first-year defender Allison Barber (Schalmont/Altamont, N.Y.) headed away the offering with her heels against the goal line.

William Smith junior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) turned away a season-high 11 offerings, while senior goaltender Julie Gawronski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk, N.Y.) corralled six shots to preserve the tie.

The Herons will travel to RIT on Oct. 11 for a 4 p.m. non-conference showdown.
