GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team had five players selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-New York teams. Earning three first-team spots and one on both the second-team and third-team, the Herons were the only school to have five players represented.

Sophomore goalie Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Canastota, N.Y.) and junior defenders Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) and Pria Young (Council Rock/Richboro, Pa.) each earned first-team honors, while first-year forward Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) garnered second-team accolades and senior defender Jenn Tibbens (Sherburne-Earlville/Sherburne, N.Y.) was named to the third-team.

Dudley, a 2003 All-Northeast third-team selection, led the conference in save percentage (.899) and was second in the Liberty League in goals against average (0.43) and shutouts, and fourth in saves (80). Named All-Liberty League second-team, she posted 12 shutouts, including six consecutive that spanned 565:16. A starter in every game the past two seasons, she has earned 22 shutouts and sports an impressive 0.62 goals against average.

Garnering first-team All-Northeast honors for the second consecutive year, Hamilton anchored a William Smith back line that held its opponents to fewer than four shots on goal per game and allowed just nine goals. A two-time All-Liberty League first-team honoree, she was named the Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week twice and was selected as the Most Valuable Defensive Player in both the Heron Cup and Red Dragon Invitational. For her career, Hamilton has played in all but one game, tallying a goal and five assists.

An All-Liberty League first-team award winner, Young provided the Herons with steady defense and a scoring punch as well this season. She led all defenders in scoring with five points off a goal and three assists. Tallying her first career goal against Clarkson, Young has amassed 16 points (1-14) during her three seasons. A guard for the William Smith basketball team as well, she has played in all but one soccer game, scoring a career-best six points in 2002.

Earning second-team All-Liberty League accolades this year, Tibbens was a major part of William Smith’s suffocating defense that allowed just nine goals and posted 12 shutouts in 20 games. A starter in all but one game over the past three seasons, she excels in the classroom as well, earning CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team honors the past two years.

The trio of Hamilton, Tibbens, and Young helped William Smith advance to the national semifinals in 2002 and were key members of the 2003 squad that captured the ECAC Northeast Championship. Over the past three seasons, they have helped the Herons post 36 shutouts, while allowing just 43 goals in 66 matches.

One of just four first-years represented on the All-Region teams, Burnett-Kurie led William Smith in scoring with six goals, all of which were game-winners, and three assists for 15 points. She scored at least one point in over half of the Herons’ games and earned the Liberty League Rookie of the Year award and second-team honors. Burnett-Kurie was named to the Heron Cup All-Tournament team after notching the winning goals against Geneseo and Allegheny.

William Smith posted its 21st straight winning season and eighth consecutive with at least 13 wins, finishing the year 13-4-3 overall and advancing to the ECAC Upstate Championship semifinals.
