Hamilton, Burnett-Kurie collect weekly honor
September 6, 2004
GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College junior Seraphine Hamilton (The Peddie School/Trenton, N.J.) and first-year Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) were named the Liberty League’s Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week and Rookie of the Week for the week ending Sept. 5. They helped lead the Herons to a 2-0-1 start to the 2004 season.
Hamilton anchored a backline that allowed just two goals in 290 minutes of action. She helped the Herons post their first shutout in a 3-0 blanking of Cortland State in the season opener on Wednesday. She was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Burnett-Kurie made her presence felt this past weekend, tallying a goal and an assist. She knocked home the game-winner against Gettysburg for her first career goal and added an assist the following afternoon on the Herons’ lone goal against Oneonta. Leading all William Smith scorers for the weekend, she is third on the team in points with three.
The Herons will put their unbeaten record to the test this weekend, when they host Geneseo and Allegheny in the Heron Cup. William Smith will match up with the Blue Knights on Sept. 11, take on the Gators the following day. Both games are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., on Cozzens Field.
