Burnett-Kurie leads Herons past Elmira

GENEVA, N.Y.—Junior forward Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) totaled two goals and one assist to lead the William Smith College soccer team past Elmira College 4-0 this afternoon. The Herons improve their record to 2-2-0 overall, while the Soaring Eagles drop to 0-2-0.
Senior midfielder Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) tallied the first score for William Smith just over 10 minutes into the game, off a lead pass from Burnett-Kurie. A little over a minute later, Burnett-Kurie netted her first goal of the day to put the Herons up 2-0.
Less than a minute into the second half, newcomer Julie Boardman-Brann (Niskayuna/Niskayuna, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal to extend the Herons’ lead to 3-0. Eight minutes later, Burnett-Kurie tapped in her second goal, following a well-placed cross from sophomore Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.).
Goalkeeper Meaghan Doherty (Albany/Albany, N.Y.) recorded four saves for the Soaring Eagles.
The Herons will travel to Texas next weekend to take on Trinity on Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. (CST), and Southwestern at 10 a.m. (CST) on Sept. 17.
