Herons fall to #4 Trinity

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS—The William Smith soccer team lost a close game to fourth-ranked Trinity University (Texas) 2-1 in overtime this afternoon. The Herons drop to 2-3-0 overall, while Trinity improves to 4-0-1.
The game remained scoreless until just over two minutes into the second half, when junior Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) netted the first goal of the game to give William Smith a 1-0 lead. Almost three minutes later, Trinity evened the game at 1-1 after a goal by Claire Edwards, assisted by Grace Rizza.
The game remained tied until the 92nd minute, when Trinity’s Jennifer Wray netted the game-winner off a cross from Michelle Grambeau.
Senior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) tallied two saves for the Herons.
William Smith will take on Southwestern (Texas) on Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. (CST).
