Herons advance to Liberty League Championship

November 3, 2006

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith soccer team advanced to the Liberty League Tournament championship game after playing to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with Skidmore College in the semifinal round this afternoon. The Herons prevailed 6-5 on penalty kicks. William Smith now holds a 10-5-2 record, while the Thoroughbreds are now 12-3-4.

Sophomore Julia Bernay (Newport Harbor/Newport Beach, Calif.) netted the penalty kick that ensured William Smith’s advancement. Junior Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.), sophomore Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.), junior Rayza Santiago (Webster Schroeder/Webster, N.Y.), sophomore Kem Price (Our Lady of Good Counsel/Silver Spring, Md.), and first-year Jillian Harris (Olentangy/Lewis Center, Ohio) all connected on penalty kicks for the Herons as well.

Senior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) tallied four saves for William Smith.

The Herons will take on Union tomorrow (11/4) at noon in the Liberty League championship game.
