Herons blank Golden Knights, 2-0

October 7, 2006

POTSDAM, N.Y.—The William Smith soccer team defeated Clarkson University 2-0 this afternoon in Liberty League action. The Herons improve to 8-3-0 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play, while the Golden Knights drop to 5-7-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the league.

Junior Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) paced the Herons with a goal and an assist. She assisted on first-year Katelyn Tyson’s (Leland/San Jose, Calif.) first collegiate goal in the 38th minute, before netting a goal of her own in the 82nd minute off a pass from first-year Hannah Vaughn (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.). Burnett-Kurie leads the league in goals (9) and points (21).

Senior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) (8-3-0) recorded one save for the Herons and picked up her fourth shutout of the year.

William Smith will return to action on Oct. 10 when it hosts RIT for a non-league match at 4 p.m.
