GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith soccer team continues to be ranked fifth in the New York State Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The Herons have held the No. 5 spot for the past four weeks. The NSCAA rankings are voted on weekly by coaches across the country.
Last weekend the Herons shutout both St. Lawrence (4-0) and Clarkson (2-0), to improve their record to 8-3-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the Liberty League. Senior Heather Phillip (Cayuga/King Ferry, N.Y.) and junior Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.) paced the offense, each totaling two goals and one assist. Phillip tallied all her points in the victory over the Saints, while Burnett-Kurie recorded three of her five points against the Golden Knights.
Seniors Ashley Kent (Westfield/Westfield, N.J.) and Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) led the William Smith defense last week. Kent was named the Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week for her role in the Herons’ allowing just three shots on goal in two games, while Dudley (8-3-0) recorded three saves in goal en route to earning her fourth save of the year.
William Smith will be in action today when they host RIT in a non-league game on William Smith Field at 4 p.m.
