Herons to play St. John Fisher in ECAC semifinal

GENEVA, N.Y.—The No. 2 seeded William Smith College soccer team will take on sixth-seeded St. John Fisher College in the semifinal round of the ECAC Upstate Women’s Soccer Tournament on Nov. 11. The game will take place on the campus of Skidmore College, and is set to begin at 11 a.m.
The Herons (10-6-2) are led by 2006 Liberty League Player of the Year Laura Burnett-Kurie (Oyster River/Durham, N.H.), who leads the Liberty League in goals (10) and points (23). Senior Heather Phillip (Cayuga/King Ferry, N.Y.), sophomore Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.), and senior Alex Rieben (Guilford/Guilford, Conn.) have all added to the offense with four goals this season. Senior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) (10-6-2) owns a 0.54 goals against average and has seven shutouts on the season.
St. John Fisher (9-7-2) advanced to the semifinal round after defeating third-seeded Fredonia 1-0 in double-overtime. Junior Dani Davis (G. Ray Bodley/Fulton, N.Y.) leads the Cardinal’s offense this season with nine goals and four assists for 23 points, while sophomore Kelly Zeppetella (Greece Olympia/Rochester, N.Y.) and first-year Mary Dougherty (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) have tallied 19 and 16 points, respectively. Senior goalkeeper Stacy Gable (Derby/Lakeshore, N.Y.) (5-4-0) and first-year Ashely Martin (Marcellus/Marcellus, N.Y.) (4-2-2) have shared time in net, combining for nine shutouts and a 1.16 goals against average.
The winner of this game will advance to meet the winner of the other semifinal game, No. 1 Skidmore vs. No. 4 Utica, in the ECAC Upstate Championship game on Nov. 12, at 1 p.m.
