GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith soccer team tied Nazareth College 1-1 in a non-conference match this afternoon on Cozzens Field. The Herons now have an overall record of 9-3-1, while the Golden Flyers stand at 6-4-2.

William Smith scored first, when sophomore Katie Compton (The Loomis Chaffee School/West Hartford, Conn.) connected on a penalty kick in the 26th minute of play. The goal was Compton's fourth of the season, and her third goal scored on a penalty kick. The Herons went on to take the 1-0 lead into the half.

In the 63rd minute, Nazareth senior Jessemyn Russell (Stillwater/Stillwater, N.Y.) evened the game at 1-1 after netting a goal off a pass from junior Julie Birbilis (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa, N.Y.).

The evenly-matched teams played through two overtimes before finally recording the 1-1 draw. Senior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) recorded three saves for the Herons, while Shannon Burns tallied eight saves for the Golden Flyers.

William Smith will travel to Skidmore on Oct. 20 for a Liberty League game at 4 p.m.
