William Smith soccer defeated by Union in title game

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team lost to Union College 2-1 in double-overtime in the Liberty League Tournament championship game this afternoon. The Herons drop to 10-6-2 overall, while the Dutchwomen improve to 14-2-3.

William Smith took a 1-0 lead into the half, after sophomore Julia Bernay (Newport Harbor/Newport Beach, Calif.) netted the lone goal for the Herons in the 44th minute. Union’s Jenna Ondash scored both of the Dutchwomen’s goals, netting the game-winner with less than five seconds to play in the second overtime period.

Senior goalkeeper Nikki Dudley (Chittenango/Chittenango, N.Y.) tallied five saves for William Smith, while Mia Simone stopped six shots for Union.
