October 16. 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--After two wins last week, the William Smith College soccer team moved up a spot to fifth place in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll. The Herons are still No. 1 in the New York Region poll.

Last weekend William Smith routed two Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association foes by a combined score of 14-2. On Oct. 12, junior forward Alyson Stachura (Pittsford-Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.) scored three goals to lead the Herons past St. Lawrence University, 5-2. The following day, junior forward Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.) put together her own six-point performance in a 9-0 drubbing of Clarkson University. Perrigo scored a goal and assisted on four others, while senior midfielder Lauren Wendell (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and junior forward Maria Paoff (East Syracuse-Minoa/East Syracuse, N.Y.) each chipped in two goals. Stachura added a goal against the Golden Knights to earn the UCAA Player of the Week award for the second time this season.

The Herons (12-1-0, 6-0-0 UCAA) return to action on Oct. 16, when they travel to RIT for a 4 p.m. contest. Last season, William Smith shutout the Tigers in Geneva.
