Herons 7th in NSCAA poll

October 2, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--After a weekend sweep of league foes, the William Smith College soccer team held on to seventh place in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III poll. As they have been all season, the Herons remain atop the New York Region poll.

Junior forward Alyson Stachura (Pittsford Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.) provided all the offense William Smith needed last weekend, scoring the lone goal against No. 11 Union College and the first two goals in a 5-0 win over Skidmore College. Stachura's performance earned her the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's Player of the Week award. The victories ran the Herons' win streak to five. William Smith has allowed only one goal during the five-game span.

William Smith (8-1-0, 3-0-0) travels to Nazareth College on Oct. 3, to face the 25th-ranked Golden Flyers at 4 p.m. The Herons swept both meetings with Nazareth last season, beating the Flyers 1-0 during the regular season and 2-1 in the 2000 NCAA Northeast Regional Semifinal.
