GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith College soccer team collected 10 postseason awards from the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association this afternoon, including Player and Coach of the Year. Senior goalie Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) was named the conference Player of the Year, while Head Coach Aliceann Wilber earned her second consecutive UCAA Coach of the Year Award.

Joining Cornwell on the first-team are junior forwards Alyson Stachura (Pittsford-Sutherland/Pittsford, N.Y.) and Kristin Perrigo (Liverpool/Liverpool, N.Y.), junior midfielder Kristin Falzarano (Morristown/Morris Plains, N.J.), and senior defender Felicia Crump (The Lawrenceville School/Marlboro, N.J.). Three other Herons were named to the second team: senior midfielder Lauren Wendell (Cape Elizabeth/Cape Elizabeth, Maine), senior defender Summer Greiner (East Syracuse-Minoa/Kirkville, N.Y.), and junior defender Amy Pendergast (East Syracuse-Minoa/East Syracuse, N.Y.).

A two-time first-team selection, Cornwell led the UCAA in goals against average (0.55) and ranked second in the league in save percentage (.863). She posted seven shutouts this season, while turning away 69 shots.

In her 22nd year as head coach, Wilber guided her team to a 17-2-1 record, just one win shy of the school record, and its fifth NCAA Regional Championship in nine seasons, as the Heron's advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals by virtue of a 4-3 advantage in penalty kicks after playing Union to a 1-1 draw through 150 minutes. She has won 287 games as the Heron's head coach with an outstanding winning percentage of .743.

Stachura followed up her 2000 Rookie of the Year award with a 15-goal, 1-assist season, leading the team in scoring with 31 points. A two-time UCAA Player of the Week this season, she led the UCAA in goals and points scored. Stachura also led the Herons in game-winning goals with six.

Perrigo finished second on the team in scoring en route to her third consecutive All-UCAA Award. She was named first-team last season, and second-team and Rookie of the Year in 1999. Perrigo recorded 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points. She was second on the team in game-winning goals with four, and scored the deciding penalty kick that helped the Herons advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Perrigo ranks in the William Smith top-10 in career goals (10th with 28), assists (4th with 22), and points (8th with 78).

Falzarano, despite missing three games due to injury, tied for the team lead in assists with nine. In her first four games back from the injury in September, she recorded six assists (1.5/gm).

Crump anchored the defense this season in front of Cornwell, allowing opponents to score just 11 goals, 0.55 per game. Crump was named to the UCAA first-team for the third consecutive season.

Wendell emerged as a strong offensive threat this season for the Herons. She scored five goals and assisted on another for 11 points after recording just a single assist last season.

Greiner, who was named first-team All-UCAA last season, scored two goals and assisted on four others this season. Her offensive numbers are more impressive considering she moved from the midfield to defense during the off-season.

Pendergast was named to the UCAA second-team for the second straight year. She was a key figure in the Herons' stifling defense. Additionally, she added a goal and two assists to the William Smith offense.
