Cornwell named Defender of the Week
September 25, 2001
GENEVA, N.Y.--The Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association named William Smith senior Leah Cornwell (Wheatland-Chili/Caledonia, N.Y.) its Defender of the Week for the week ending Sept. 23. She helped the Herons to a 2-0 week.
Against SUNY-Geneseo on Sept. 18, Cornwell stopped six shots in a 4-1 win over the Blue Knights. Against Ithaca College on Sept. 22, the senior stopped four shots four her third shutout of the season. Cornwell is 6-1 with a UCAA leading goals against average of 0.54 and an .867 save percentage.
The Herons (6-1, 1-0 UCAA) host Union College and Skidmore College on
Sept. 28-29. William Smith faces the Dutchwomen on Friday at 4 p.m., and
the Thoroughbreds at 2 p.m., on Saturday.
